Eleven more cases of AH1N1 virus popularly known as swine flu have been confirmed at the Kenya High School in Nairobi bringing the total number of infected students to 36.
In a press briefing, the school's clinical officer Veronica Njeri however said the situation was under control and that the infected students have been isolated and were responding well to treatment.
The school's principal Rosemary Saina says most of the affected students are in forms one and two with three of them in form four.
The principal assured parents that the form four students will be able to sit for the forthcoming Kenya certificate of secondary education, K.C.S.E.
The first case of the virus in the school was detected on Tuesday, three weeks after schools re-opened for the third term.
A number of parents turned out to check on their children but they were not allowed to talk to their daughters for fear of spreading the virus further.
The school has a total of 800 students.
Meanwhile the ministry of health has launched a health education programme to sensitize members of the public on the contagious AH1N1 flu in Western Province.
Provincial medical health officer Dr. Ahindukha Quido said the aim of the programme was to educate people on preventive measures to be taken to curb the spread of the disease.
Dr Quido was however quick to reassure that no cases of the disease had been reported in the province
