Failing to find lasting love, “American Idol” winner David Cook and former contestant Kimberly Caldwell is claimed to have broken up.

A source close to David Cook has been telling Access Hollywood that the winner of 7th season "American Idol" has broken up with his singer girlfriend Kimberly Caldwell. No words have been given by the source on the reason that prompts the couple's separation. “They didn’t want to make a big deal about it,” an insider tells of the breakup, which reportedly took place just before Christmas.

As for the not-too-distant chatter of a nearing engagement and a ring being purchased, “That rumor was not true. The relationship just sort of dissolved.”
