Re-Imagined 'Star Tours' Coming to California and Florida in 2011 and Major Fantasyland Expansion at Walt Disney World Scheduled for 2013

ANAHEIM, Calif., Sept. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo detailed plans for future lands, attractions and adventures that will be delighting Disney guests for years to come, at the first D23 Expo. Most notable among the announcements were the confirmation of an all-new Star Tours attraction and the largest expansion in the history of the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

"Storytelling is the DNA of Disney dreams and we're always exploring new ways to tell new stories in new places," Rasulo told a crowd at the Anaheim Convention Center in California before taking them on a "behind-the-magic" tour of their favorite Disney destinations.

Rasulo announced that a new 3-D version of the tremendously-popular "Star Tours" attraction will debut at the Disneyland Resort and Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2011. Based on the iconic Lucasfilm "Star Wars" films, the attraction will include immersive new elements that will take guests to many familiar places in the Star Wars galaxy.

For Walt Disney World in Florida, Rasulo outlined plans for the largest expansion in the history of the Magic Kingdom, vastly increasing the size of Fantasyland by 2013. Guests will soon be able to:

-- Visit their favorite Disney Princess in her castle, cottage, or
chateau to share a dance with Cinderella; celebrate Sleeping Beauty's
birthday with the Good Fairies; or join Belle in an enchanting story
performance in the Beast's castle library.
-- Be Our Guest and dine in one of three enchanted rooms inside the
Beast's castle.
-- Fly with Dumbo high above brand new circus grounds, twice the size of
the existing attraction with a new interactive, three-ring circus
tent.
-- Journey under the sea with Ariel, The Little Mermaid, in her very own
attraction - also opening at Disney's California Adventure in Anaheim
in 2011.

-- Meet Tinker Bell and her friends in the magical world of Pixie Hollow.

Rasulo provided updates on the multi-year expansion of Disney's California Adventure including the new "World of Color" attraction slated to open in the spring of 2010 and the addition of the 12-acre Cars Land scheduled to open in 2012 where guests will literally step into the town of Radiator Springs and its six acres of hand-carved rockwork.

Rasulo noted the progress of several other recently-announced projects including the three new lands coming to Hong Kong Disneyland by 2014; the Disney Dream, the new ship being built by Disney Cruise Line; the many diverse itineraries being offered by Adventures by Disney that take guests on 19 unique, once-in-a-lifetime guided vacation experiences; and Disney's first family destination resort on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.

Rasulo's keynote presentation was only part of the D23 EXPO experience. Guests were able to discover:

-- Never-before-seen models of upcoming Disney attractions.
-- Up close and personal visits with Lucky the Dinosaur and Wall-E.
-- A preview of the most advanced Audio-Animatronics figures ever created
by Walt Disney Imagineering.

-- Displays showcasing cutting-edge effects technologies that are being
developed for Disney attractions, shows and venues.

First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden Ask Americans To Support Military Families In New Public Service Announcement

PSA Developed With Support From Major League Baseball and its Welcome Back Veterans Program Part of A New Volunteer Initiative Called "I Participate" Led By The Entertainment Industry Foundation

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden appear in a new Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) public service announcement that praises the contributions of military servicemen and women while asking Americans to assist veterans and military families who need help. The PSA is scheduled to premiere in Major League Baseball stadiums across the country today as part of its Welcome Back Veterans initiative, and will air on major broadcast networks starting this fall.

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20090911/NY74158 )

The PSA featuring the First Lady and Dr. Biden is the first in a series created by EIF as part of its newly launched "I Participate" initiative designed to inspire a new era of volunteerism and community work in America. As a centerpiece of this multiyear campaign, the major broadcast networks -- ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC -- and others will include the theme of service in programming in more than 60 shows for the full week of October 19 -25.

"I've made it a personal priority to ask all Americans to join me in the cause of supporting our military families," said Mrs. Obama. "We must all remember that when our troops are deployed, their families are left behind with a completely different set of duties. Let us make a pledge to honor their service and their sacrifice by doing more to serve them in our own communities. Whether it's just being a good neighbor or it's volunteering at a local organization that supports military families, please join us in taking the time to honor those who sacrifice for all of us."

"As the mother of a National Guardsman who is serving in Iraq, this is personal," said Dr. Biden. "I share the concerns, the anxieties, and the pride that come with being a member of a military family, and I have also seen first-hand what a difference it makes when people reach out to show support, whether in school, in the neighborhood, or in the workplace. Each of us has the power to make a difference in the life of a service member or his or her family."

In April, President Obama signed the bi-partisan Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act which recognizes September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance and reauthorizes the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the Federal agency that oversees the Administration's call to service. The bill also represents the largest expansion of federal support for service in history, bringing critical new resources to national service programs, volunteer management efforts and social innovation.

Each of EIF's PSAs will highlight one of five key areas where volunteers are needed most: support for military families; wellness; community health; financial security; and environmental conservation; all were directed by Jesse Dylan. The PSAs include information about http://www.iparticipate.org/ which is designed to make it easy for people to search for volunteer opportunities in their communities and discover new ways to give back. The website features include calendars of events, maps, digital tool kits and uses the power of social networking vehicles like Facebook, making it easy for people to join the movement and recruit friends. Information about the programs can also be found at welcomebackveterans.org and serve.gov.

"With the collective impact of the parties involved in I Participate, we are confident this important initiative will make a significant impact," said Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig. "Welcome Back Veterans has been an important program for Major League Baseball over the past two seasons and, by becoming a major part of I Participate, we expect the program to significantly address the post traumatic stress needs of veterans and their families."

The number of Americans who volunteer regularly has not increased in 40 years and has generally remained around 26%, according to an annual survey conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. While volunteerism usually declines during periods of economic distress, volunteerism is currently on the rise in America, particularly among young people, according to the CNCS.

"As an industry of storytellers who shape popular culture through film, television and music, we have a unique opportunity to bring service to the fore of American consciousness," said Lisa Paulsen, President and CEO of EIF. "We are so honored to have Mrs. Obama and Dr. Biden appear in this important PSA about how we can assist our military men and women and their families."

"The Art Of The Remix": New Interactive Music Remixing Tutorial Released

22 Jun 2009 07:00 Africa/Lagos

"The Art Of The Remix": New Interactive Music Remixing Tutorial Released

LONDON, June 22/PRNewswire/ --

- As Recommended by Dirty Vegas and Jimmy Douglass, Producer/Engineer for Jay-Z, Missy Elliott and Justin Timberlake.

- The Art Of The Remix Video is Co-produced by Grammy Award-Winner Charles Dye

The Art Of The Remix is an in-depth video course taught by two remix experts. Vincent DiPasquale has worked with everyone from Timbaland to Madonna, while Steven Lee is one half of the dynamic Lee-Cabrera house music partnership with the legendary Albert Cabrera.

Together they've produced seven hours of essential high definition content, available to be streamed online or via a DVD, on creating a high quality remix from start to finish.

The Art Of The Remix is just like sitting right next to a couple of remix experts as they produce a track from start to finish. "Over the years, I've been fortunate enough to learn by working with some of the most talented producers on the planet," says DiPasquale. "And people are constantly asking me if they can sit in and watch during a remix. Now they can, as we remix a song together for an actual project."

"What sets The Art of the Remix apart is that by following each step you'll produce the exact same remix we did in the studio on your system," adds Lee. "Vincent teaches you every single step of the process, and by following along with the provided sessions, you'll be able to recreate the exact same result we delivered to the record label."

By following the video tutorial, the user can create a replica of the remix of Nadia Ali's 'Crash & Burn' that DiPasquale and Lee fashioned. "The entire experience will be something they can then apply to their own remixes and studio projects," says Steven, who provides the DJ's perspective on the project.

Remixing, where you are given all the constituent parts to work with is a great way of getting into producing your own individual tracks. Many of today's top producers learned their craft by starting out remixing for other people.

Video: New Children's Storybook Helps Parents Teach Their Children With Asthma About Their Condition

Schering-Plough partners with the Allergy & Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics to tell the delightful story of "Breathless Bethany Buttercup"

KENILWORTH, N.J., March 24, 2009 /PRNewswire/ — Asthma is the most common chronic condition among children, with approximately 6.8 million children currently with asthma in the United States.1,2 It accounts for almost 13 million missed school days each year and is the third-ranking cause of hospitalization among those younger than 15 years of age.3,4 With statistics like these, a diagnosis of asthma can often be daunting for parents and children. Parents often struggle with the best way to talk to their children about asthma, and many children with asthma report a desire not to be treated differently from other children.5 To help parents speak with their children about asthma and support children coping with their disease, Schering-Plough Corporation has partnered with the Allergy & Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics (AANMA) to develop a fun, yet educational, storybook, Breathless Bethany Buttercup, that uses a little girl's story about her experience with asthma to provide information about asthma management.

"When my daughter, Danielle, was first diagnosed with asthma, I was in need of a way to help me talk to her about the condition and the importance of using medication to help her feel better," said Julie Driggers of Omaha, Nebraska. "It is great to see that there is now an informative resource like this storybook available for children. This storybook also conveys the seriousness of asthma and highlights the importance of working with your doctor to develop an asthma action plan."

Some children find it difficult to accept an asthma diagnosis, which makes the role of a parent all the more vital. According to a 2007 study published in the journal Pediatric Nurse, it is important for parents to talk to a physician about ways to build their child's self-confidence and prevent them from feeling stigmatized when they display difficulty coping with their asthma.6 Parents should also monitor their child's asthma and continue to work with their child's physician to determine an appropriate asthma management plan.7

"We're excited to collaborate with Schering-Plough on the development of an asthma storybook for children," said Nancy Sander, founder and president of the Allergy & Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics. "The number one reason why parents call our organization is to find answers to questions about medications and how to help their children to take them as prescribed. Breathless Bethany Buttercup provides the perfect forum for parents and children to talk about asthma and how to manage their condition."

Breathless Bethany Buttercup was written by Tolya Thompson and illustrated by Curt Walstead. With playful rhymes and colorful illustrations, the storybook appeals to early elementary school-aged students and parents can order a free copy through Schering-Plough and the Allergy & Asthma Network Mothers of Asthmatics. For more information or to receive your own copy, visit www.asthmastorybook.com or www.breatherville.org.
