[edit] 2008 IPL Season
[edit] Performance
The Daredevils were well poised from the onset of the first IPL season, having most of their core players—with the exception of Daniel Vettori—available for the whole tournament. The team built their batting lineup around Delhi openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir and used the majority of their foreign player quota on their bowling attack lead by Glenn McGrath and Mohammed Asif.
The team started the tournament well, winning 4 of their first 5 games. However, they were unable to sustain this and finished the round-robin portion of the tournament with a record of 7-6. Their performance was good enough to make the semi-finals, where they lost by 105 runs against the Rajasthan Royals. Royals, who had lost to the Daredevils in their first encounter, went on to win the title.
[edit] Drug Scandal
On 14 July 2008, it was revealed by the IPL that Daredevils pace bowler Mohammad Asif tested positive for an unamed banned substance. As Asif had not applied for any therapeutic use exemption, the positive test was considered a breach of the IPL's drug policy. The case will be reviewed by the IPL's three-member drug tribunal of medical and legal experts.[2]
[edit] Home Ground
The Daredevils play their home matches in the Feroz Shah Kotla ground located in New Delhi, under the newly installed floodlights.
[edit] Brand Ambassador
Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar was the brand ambassador of the team during the 2008 Season but opted not to return for the 2009 season due to a busy schedule.
