Whether you’re team Edward or team Jacob, there’s no excuse to not make room for the Salvatore brothers from the CW hit series: The Vampire Diaries – and no, these vamps definitely don’t glitter.
Based on the novels written by L.J Smith, The Vampire Diaries centres around the beautiful yet troubled Elena Gilbert, (played by Nina Dobrev), who loses her parents in a tragic car crash, her story revolves around her falling in love with the mysterious 150 year old vampire, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley). Meanwhile, Elena’s best friend Bonnie (played by Katherine Graham) discovers her family has a magical history that could put her in danger…But even more mayhem ensues when Stefan’s dangerous, younger brother Damon (played by Ian Somerhalder) appears to cause chaos in their town, Mystic Falls.
The plot thickens, when you find out the real motive for Damon’s return to Mystic Falls and why Elena is stuck in the middle of these two delicious brothers. What Stefan fails to mention to Elena is his first love, Katherine Pierce, who died in the 19th Century, looks identical to her and surprise, surprise she was a vampire too.
As the leading character, Nina Dobrev manages to deliver a mesmerising performance and she definitely keeps the audience on their toes with the amount of sexual tension between her character Elena and Damon Salvatore.
There is much controversy about the similar love triangle with Bella, Edward and Jacob but the fact that Elena is a much more independent and stronger female role model, definitely helps push Vampire Diaries ahead of the predictable and sappy Twilight saga.
Sexy, dangerous and edgy is definitely the perfect way to describe this series and you’d be silly to not start watching.
